2017

November 13, 2017

On Friday evening this week we will come to the end of a long and enjoyable 7-year journey with bandmate, Steve Hoover, who has become a good friend over the many weeks of practice and many miles traveled to events. There have been ups and downs along the way, to be sure, but the time spent ministering together has overwhelmingly brought great memories that can not be replaced. I suppose this week might be a bit harder to take if not for the fact that God has already adequately provided (as He always does) Coins with a new member and lead guitarist, Allen Nichols, to take Steve's place. And so, while this week brings the close of one chapter, next week opens the beginning of a new one and the continuation of what God has been doing in and through the ministry of Copper Coins. The band also marks its ninth anniversary together this month, which is so fitting that it's during the month of Thanksgiving, though we do thank God year round for His grace and mercy and the privilege to serve and glorify Him through this gift of music. Thank you also to all of you who have followed us, prayed for us, joined us in worshiping Jesus at so many events, and being such an encouragement to keep following His lead as He takes us wherever He wishes to use us. It has been such a joy and a blessing over the years to praise our Savior together with you and to also know you were praying for us when we weren't together... and we look forward to as many more years as God may give us as a band. With two new members, Jess on vocals and Allen on guitar, the 2018 year is looking to be a very fun and interesting one as we eagerly wait to see how God works in our own lives as well as in those He brings to our events.

In November I will play my last couple of worship opportunities with Copper Coins and turn the page on seven years of personal spiritual growth, musical fun and worship time with my friends in the band. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be part of a unique musical ministry that blended my loves of rock guitar riffs and God and brought me tons of fun, memories and blessings. I have a very peaceful sense from God that our season and mission together is complete and that I need to be exploring other opportunities to use whatever gifts I can, including music, to continue to serve and grow in Him. For example, my church in Vestal is ramping up its music ministry, providing a continued outlet for my guitar and I want to give that my all as well. Finally, this new opening at Copper Coins gives another guitarist with an itch to jam for God a chance to experience and contribute to a wonderful and unique Christian musical family in the Southern Tier. God is in control all the time.

In Jesus' name,

     - Steve

With a very heavy heart and much sadness, we announce that we will very soon be saying goodbye to long time lead guitarist and band member, Steve Hoover. Having relayed his recent decision to the rest of the Coins at last Thursday night's practice, Steve has planned that his last day with the band will be our Friday evening event on November 17th at the Watson Homestead Conference Center in Painted Post, NY. November will mark seven years that Steve has been with us as our lead guitarist, one of the longest members with the band since it started in November of 2008, and we will all miss him very much. He is currently writing a final blog post announcement in his own words that will be posted on our website and Facebook pages later this week. We hope that all of you will make every effort to catch us at one of our four remaining events this year before Steve's exit. We'll be at the Owego Nazarene Church on October 15th, the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church on October 22nd, Twin Tiers Rock The House on November 11th, and Watson Homestead on November 17th. The ministry of Copper Coins will, of course, continue full steam in 2018 and the band already has plans in place for a substitute guitarist that will help us cover events currently being discussed and scheduled for the next year until we find our next full time replacement to fill Steve's shoes. We'd appreciate your prayers for our search that God will connect us quickly with our next lead guitarist soon. Thanks!

It's September and I am getting excited. No, I am not going to a National Softball Tournament. I might go to a race later in the month, but nope that's not it. I am sure looking forward to the NFL football season to begin, but nope that's not it. Copper Coins has just been invited to two places I can't wait to go (Owego Nazarene and Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan). Both concerts are happening in October so you all have plenty of time to clear your calendars. I have been so looking forward to going to the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church. I hope to see all those I was able to play softball with and win with this summer. I can't imagine anything better than to get together with friends and praise our God. You will all get the opportunity to meet Jess, our new female lead singer. I hope to see you all there! It will mean a lot to me to see you there.

And then there were only five again... It seems like it was only yesterday when we welcomed Carla Padilla into the Coins and yet it has been a whole year and four months since she stepped into the position of lead vocalist/front person for our ministry band. We shared a bunch of good times, made memories we won't soon forget, and enjoyed watching how God used us and also worked in us along the way. Now here we are a mere five days since she sang and played her last event with us. It doesn't seem possible and yet it's reality... the Coins are back to only five members again and looking for our next co-lead vocalist to join Donny. Carla will indeed be missed. She brought a renewed energy, a spark, and some spunk to this group that will be hard to replace... but we know God has everything in His control so we eagerly await to see who He brings to us and what the rest of 2017 will look like. If you or someone you know might be interested in joining the ministry of Copper Coins, please feel free to send us an and get your name on our list of candidates. We look forward to hearing from you! For now, however, it's business as usual. The Coins still have a number of dates already on the calendar that we're preparing for and we can't wait to see all of our friends (and make new ones) as we lead worship at each stop in 2017. See you down the road!

It is with much regret and great sadness that we announce that Carla will be leaving Copper Coins in May to move with her family out of state. We're sure you all agree with us that she will be greatly missed and that her time with the Coins has been very special. We wish her all the best and will continue to keep her, Frank, and the kids in prayer. We have some events in the works we're trying to add to our calendar before then and sincerely hope everyone will come out to worship our Savior with us as well as help us say goodbye to Carla!

January 30, 2017

It seems unreal at times that Copper Coins has been together for 8 years now but as of this past November we have hit that mark and are now in our 9th year of ministry. We've had times of trial, times of rejoicing, times when we felt weak, and times when we saw God work in mysterious yet incredible ways. Through it all, God has continued to be faithful to us not only in our own lives but also in how He chooses to minister through us despite our faults and failings. This new year, although certain to have its own low spots, is another one filled with hope, excitement, and anticipation of what God will do among the members of Copper Coins and in the lives of those He chooses to connect us with as we share His gift of music. We get excited when we have the opportunity to join others in the worship of our Savior because He is the source of our hope. Romans 15 tells us that He is the hope of Jews and Gentiles:

8 For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, 9 and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name." 10 And again it is said, "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people." 11 And again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him." 12 And again Isaiah says, "The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope." 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

In this new year, as always, we would love to come join you for worship and celebrate the hope we have in Christ! If you or your church has a service, outreach, indoor/outdoor event where you would like someone to partner with you in ministry and/or lead worship or provide praise music, please feel free to contact us! Until we see you in person (whether meeting for the first time or reuniting with brothers and sisters we've met in the past already), may God continue to bless and keep you and may He continue to put His hope in your hearts!
